Webinar Radiation Crosslinking
Radiation crosslinking of Wires & Cables: Benefits, Trends and Opportunities
In the automotive and electrical industries, as well as in infrastructure, radiation crosslinking of cables enables increased durability, reliability and safety of products. The irradiation is ideal for single-core wires and cables, multi-core cables and shielded single-core cables, also with jackets. Watch our webinar recording to learn more about the trends, advantages and possibilities of radiation crosslinking of cables and wires!
The irradiation of cables and wires is a proven process for improving mechanical, thermal and electrical properties in particular. Targeted treatment with electron irradiation makes the cables and wires more resistant to heat, abrasion and chemical influences. Another significant improvement in properties is that the insulation does not melt and flow at elevated temperatures if the conductor has been heated due to a short circuit or during the soldering process.
Radiation crosslinking improves the temperature resistance and flame resistance. In the webinar we will show you the melting behavior of radiation crosslinked polyethylene and the resistance after a heat shock.
The irradiation of plastics significantly improves their mechanical strength, particularly at high temperatures, as seen in the increased tensile strength of cables and wires. Find out more about these benefits in our upcoming webinar.
After irradiation, the resistance to aggressive media and hydrolysis is significantly increased. We will show you the positive effects after irradiation, e.g. that the storage time is significantly longer with higher tensile strength.

Dr. Michal Daněk has been Key Account Manager for Central Europe at BGS since 2005. The graduate plastics engineer completed his doctorate in 2014 on the influence of radiation on polymer properties. During his many years of work in the field of polymer modification through ionizing radiation, he has gained a lot of experience and has been involved in a number of innovative projects in the field of injection moulded parts for the electrical and automotive industries, cables, hoses and shrink products. His specialty is the radiation crosslinking of polyamides.
Jennifer Philippczyk has been working in sales at BGS since 2022. She began her career as a trainee and now works as a junior account manager in the field of radiation crosslinking. She studied chemistry and previously worked in the field of corrosion testing for a wide range of materials and components as well as in the field of experimental and regulatory testing of medical devices.
